Dr. Tanwir Jaffer is a female specialist surgeon in private practice.
She provides holistic surgical management of her patients from pre-operative work-up and counselling to post-operative wound care and recovery. Communication and understanding are key to her everyday management of all patients..She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, obtaining her MBCHB degree in 2013. She then completed her internship and community service at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg.
Surgical registrar in 2017
Dr Jaffer pursued further general surgery training at the University of Pretoria where she became a surgical registrar in 2017 and attained her FCS(SA) and Master of Medine in Surgery (MMed Surgery) in 2021. During her registrar time she presented multiple research papers at surgical congresses. The research topics presented included:
- Monocyte profiles in breast cancer patients with and without HIV infection.
- Audit of adult burn patients presenting to Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital.
- Ileosigmoid Knot: The Kalafong Hospital Experience.
Dr Jaffer is one of few Type 1 diabetic general surgeons in the country.
Giving her insight from both the patients’ side as well as the doctors’ side of the disease. She is passionate about research, patient education and providing the best surgical care to all her patients. As a general surgeon Dr Jaffer performs the full range of surgeries through open and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. Dr Jaffer performs emergency trauma surgeries as well as emergency and elective general surgery cases.
